The Federal Government will grant $45.6 million to the Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme under the $500 million National Water Infrastructure Development Fund. The Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme is an infrastructure development scheme that aims to generate recycled water for primary production in the Northern Adelaide Plains by 2019. Project proposals relevant to the COFFIE pilot program are currently being received. Applicants will work in partnership with the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board to design a proposal to be assessed by an Independent Approved Irrigation Professional which is then submitted to the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. Approved projects will require the irrigator to transfer agreed water entitlements to the Commonwealth. Projects require irrigation efficiency aims to be eligible for funding under the $15 million pilot programs. The Department’s allocation of funding, which will be up to 1.75 times the value of the total value of the market rate of the water entitlements exchanged, is currently set at $3007/ML in the South Australian Murray Water Resource Plan Area.
