Royal Commission into Youth Detention Opens in Darwin

The Royal Commission into the Child Protection and Youth Detention Systems of the Northern Territory was opened yesterday. The directions hearing established the path which the commission will follow in investigating the state of the Northern Territory’s youth protection and detention services. This will include consultations, submissions and evidence from the State’s indigenous community and others. The Commission has recognised this process of engagement to be difficult and have engaged individuals within the community to increase awareness of Commission and their role.
