Report: Inquiry into Onshore Unconventional Gas in Victoria

The Inquiry into Onshore Unconventional Gas in Victoria has been released earlier this month and is pending a response to the 15 recommendations from the Victorian State Government within six months of the Report’s release. The scope of the Inquiry focused on onshore unconventional gas with regards to its economic, environmental and social viability throughout Victoria. Among the Report’s 15 recommendations, attention was given to
– The need for a large-scale investigation into associated human health impacts,
– Greater environmental protection regulatory and investigative powers,
– Increased public access to information and legal awareness of their property rights
– Mandatory requirement of baseline data to precede any gas development.
