Queensland Government Seeks to Re-establish Public Consultation Regarding Environmental Management

The Nature Conservation and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 (QLD) has been referred to the Agriculture and Environment Committee for consideration. A Report recommending the introduction or rejection of the Bill is expected by 5th February 2016. The Bill seeks to amend the Aboriginal Land Act 1991, the Environmental Protection Act 1994, the Land Act 1994, the Marine Parks Act 2004, the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Recreation Areas Management Act 2006. It is seeking to re-introduce transparency and public consultation in environmental decision-making that was previously limited by the former Queensland Government. This includes the incorporation of indigenous knowledge and skills into management. The Bill in full can be read here.
