The Productivity Commission has released their annual review into industry assistance. Northern Australia featured heavily across the Review, including the establishment of the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF). NAIF was established to facilitate the development of private projects by providing access to public funding assistance where private finance is unavailable. Loans given will have lower interest rates, longer repayment periods and different repayment structures.
The Productivity Commission found that the success of NAIF relies on projects demonstrating their future capacity to service loans. It further raised some issues with regards to NAIF’s transparency of governance, and the risk of industry after the concessional loan scheme ceases. To read in full click here.
