The Nature Conservation (Special Wildlife Reserves) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2017 (QLD) seeks protect significant biodiversity through the assistance of private landholders. It establishes voluntary-managed protected areas for leasehold and freehold landholders that are said to equate in protection standards to State National Parks. Conservation Agreements for these special wildlife reserves will be perpetual. The Agriculture and Environment Committee tabled their report on the Bill on Friday. The Committee did not reach a consensus on the Bill, with no majority decision as to whether the Bill should be passed. The Bill is now before Parliament.
