National Parks and Victorian Environmental Assessment Council Acts Amendment Act 2016 (Vic)
Under this statute, Greater Bendigo National Park will be granted an additional 245 hectares. This area is of significance to the traditional Dja Dja Wurrung people. This amendment is one step in the process toward securing indigenous title over the area.
The Act also amends the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council Act. Currently this body is responsible for advising government on environmental protection and suitable management issues with regards to public land. These amendments will increase the advisory role of the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council legislating their capacity to expand their ability to investigate, communicate and advise. This Act will commence later this year.
