The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation has released its Low Emissions Technology Roadmap this month. The Report outlines low emissions technological development that can assist Australia in meetings its climate policy obligations of a 26-28% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2030. The potential of low emissions technologies were based on a cost-benefit analysis of criteria including abatement potential, risk (including technological and commercial readiness), cost (both current and projected), and level of industry support. The Report also noted the potential to retrofit existing buildings, industry and transport sectors with improved energy technologies to compliment new technology.
The Report will inform the Australian Government review in Climate Change Policy due at the end of this year and can be read in full here.
