Inland Rail to Connect Regional Grain Growers with Distributors

The Federal Government is expected to announce a one billion dollar loan, to be administered by the Australian Rail Track Corporation, to assist in the development of the Inland Rail Project in the upcoming federal budget. The purpose of the Project is to increase accessibility of regional produce to the export market. The Project will connect Brisbane and Melbourne via regional New South Wales and Victoria with 1700 km of railway track. This includes existing track, track upgrades and additional track being built largely north of Dubbo in central NSW and extending into QLD. Existing rail connections will link Adelaide and Perth to the proposed line. The connect between Brisbane and Melbourne will be 24 hours shorter than the current coast rail link with a saving  of $10 per tonne for intercapital freight travelling between Melbourne and Brisbane.
