The Bill is currently before the House of Representatives and seeks to introduce the recommendations arising from the Report of the Independent Review of the Water Act 2007. The amendments seek to improve the efficacy of the Government as the environmental water holder, improve the transparency of the water trading market and minimise regulatory restrictions burdening irrigators and industry. The Bill will also introduce five-yearly reviews of the socio-economic impacts of the Basin Plan and further adopt indigenous knowledge in the management of the Basin.
