The Federal Treasurer yesterday engaged the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to Inquire into electricity supply and prices. The Inquiry comes in response to rising consumer prices for access to the electricity market. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has been requested to investigate anti-competitive behaviour by market operators as well as restrictive regulations impacting on driving competitive market participation. A preliminary report is due later this year, with a final report due midway through 2018.
