Victoria Moves to Create Moratorium over Onshore Unconventional Gas Developments

The Resource Legislation Amendment (Fracking Ban) Bill 2016 (Vic) has been introduced to permanently ban onshore unconventional gas exploration and development across Victoria. The Bill will also extend the current moratorium on conventional gas exploration and development across Victoria until mid-2020. The bill seeks to provide protection to agricultural sector and regional communities who raised health and environmental concerns via submissions to the 2015 Parliamentary Inquiry into Onshore Unconventional Gas in Victoria.
