The Select Committee on Regional Development and Decentralisation has tabled their issues paper. The paper discusses best practice approaches to regional development, decentralisation of Commonwealth entities and corporate entities. It analyses some recent inquiries undertaken in the area and highlights some areas requiring further investigation. The paper is also intended to stimulate public submissions that are now open.
An inquiry in the waste and recycling industry in Australia has been launched and is currently receiving submissions. The scope of the inquiry will look at the amount of waste currently generated and the proportion of waste being recycled, the legality and levies surrounding landfill and the transportation of waste across state borders.
The Murray-Darling Basin Senate Inquiry is currently receiving submissions until 28 September 2017. The Inquiry will investigate claims of theft and corruption in the management of the Murray-Darling Basin, including the actions, or lack thereof, of both state governments and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority. The Inquiry will also investigate the use of environmental water, which has been purchased by the Federal Government with public money, for irrigation purposes.
