Kidston Solar Project Begins Construction

Construction of the $126 million Kidston Solar Project began last week under the Solar 150 Program, sponsored by the Queensland Government and through funding support from the Federal Government’s ARENA program. The Project is located on the site of a former gold mine and will transition from stage one as a solar farm, into a second stage of hydro-storage and power generation. Once the first stage is completed, the Project is expected to contribute 50 megawatts of renewable energy into the State’s electricity grid.  The second state will contribute ‘an additional 270 megawatts of capacity as well as a 1500 megawatt-hour hydro storage facility’.[1] The Project’s proponent is Genex.
