A draft of the Export Control Bill 2017 (Cth) and Regulation Impact Statement has been released for public comment by the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. One of the Bill’s purpose is to administratively consolidate and simplify Australia’s current export legislative framework. There are currently 17 Acts (including the Export Control Act 1982 (Cth) and the Australian Meat and Live-stock Industry Act 1997 (Cth)) and more than 40 legislative instruments (which includes regulations, orders and declarations) related to Australian agricultural exports. Comment is being received until 24 October 2017.
