The Product Emissions Standards Bill 2017 (Cth) is one in a collection of a suite of bills that seeks to regulate the noxious emissions leading to air pollution across Australia. In its initial focus, the Bill would further strengthen the national emission standards for new non-road spark ignition engines and equipment (NRSIEE) that was established in 2015 under the National Clean Air Agreement. NRSIEE has the capacity to pollute in large amounts relative to its size because it is not equipped with advanced emission controls found in on-road engines. Read the bill here.
