LIBBY CIESIOLKA

Libby grew up in Wee Waa, NSW on the only fully-piped farm in the Namoi Catchment, known colloquially as “The Peanut Farm” where she gained practical agricultural and irrigation experience including installing water efficient infrastructure such as centre pivot irrigation systems.

Libby’s agricultural background led her to lobby local government to provide growing space in the City of Sydney which resulted in development of the Woolloomooloo Community Permaculture Garden and she continues to be an active member of that garden.

Libby has expertise in planning law, local government law, international law and administrative law.

She was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW in 2007 and worked as a research assistant to the Judges of the Federal Court, Tim Robertson SC, Tony McAvoy SC and other NSW barristers before joining the NSW Department of Industry in their Natural Resources Legal Branch. There she advised on water, mining and agricultural legal matters including advising the NSW Office of Water on commercial aspects of State and Federal water efficiency project contracts.

After this, Libby moved to private practice where she advised on the planning aspects of environmental markets including renewable energy projects and off grid facilities. She also advised on reforms to biodiversity legislation and water registers.

More recently, Libby worked for indigenous clients in a small Sydney law firm, advising on rights under Part 4A of the National Parks and Wildlife Act and consequent lease negotiations.

Libby was awarded a Master of Environmental Law in 2014.
